Abyss, the land of Warlords …
The world of Abyss sits upon its own land now, but there is a piece missing … a piece that the Superior Warlord has changed his mind about.
Long ago, the lands of Fable and Abyss were easily traversable by any traveler. The lands were considered free for all, but this is long before humanity had found its way across the sea, and the animals and early races. With the traveling of humans to Abyss came the intermingling of races and people, the forming of habitations and towns, and ideals. Rulers emerged, proud and strong; good leaders of a good land. But as people collide and merge together, opinions differentiate, and conflicts emerge. And things in Abyss took a turn for the worse.
A warlord had risen to power, an older man but influential, and he soon began commanding leadership of the world of Abyss, and the surrounding lands. Order required leadership, he claimed, and who was not a better leader but he? His charisma won over the land, and he had little obstacles being placed in charge and ahead of the ranks. And things blossomed and grew under his leadership, but in an industrial sort of manner. Human settlement had brought ideas to Abyss, and the warlord implemented them, using them to help build better, build larger, and satisfy the people. But he was power-hungry and needed more to satisfy himself.
There were dark lands on this continent, and myths and lore written in old, dusted books about them; tales of gates of evil sealed shut by ancient races and ancient battles, tales of impossibilities waiting to be possible. It was said that once set free, darker forces and powers were be unleashed upon the land, for better or for worse. No one knew what would happen – stories ended in mystery, making them seem false and arbitrary. Some people in Abyss, with more modern minds and interests elsewhere, disregarded thr lore of old, that which existed before they arrived.
The people of Abyss used magic, but were not wary of how often or for what they used it. Schools opened to teach the art of magic and its use in the world, and how to use it well. The school also taught common day education, such as reading, writing, math, science and the like – something brought over and emphasized originally by the human race, and then simply taken from them entirely. With a modern education and strong teaching of magic, Abyss would be great and undeniably superior to the surrounding lands and their people. Sooner or later, they would want to become citizens themselves.
There were a small number who opposed this way of life and the rulers behind it. Kept underground at first, the support for the group grew until finally it had organized a leader of the dissent, and began protesting openly. And thus the future Guardian of Sages would have a showdown with the future Superior Warlord. The conflict between the two became less undercover and more heated until finally, in a show of power, the Warlord banished the leader and all dissenters out of Abyss, drawing down boundaries in a fit of rage. He saw nothing wrong with his way of thinking, and detested being opposed.
The rogue group was expelled to some lands beyond where Abyss was said to exist, beyond the dunes and wastelands. With a little organization and encouragement, the Guardian of Sages rose to aid them, appointing more sages for watch over the surrounding lands, calling the settlement Fable Expelled, as they believed wholly in the stories of old, and the careful use of magic.
The world of Abyss continued to grow without any interruption, the Academy developing and collecting the schools, as well as the miko and lessons at the shrine. Less averse to war and more interested in gaining power and protection over Abyss, the people are not all stereotypically cruel, but when it comes to Fable, the general disposition is one of contempt (not to say there aren’t exceptions to the rule).
