Posted: Thu Dec 18, 2008 3:16 pm Post subject: Phiari: Human: Rogue
Username: Kryst
Name: Phiari (and Panda)
Age: Her age is unknown, even to her, but best estimates suggests eighteen.
Gender: Female
Weight: 119 pounds
Height: 5’4
Race: Human
Class/Occupation: Rogue
Residence: Town of Taori
School/Classes: None
Physical Description: She is small and waiflike, with large originally blue eyes and shoulder length, wavy blonde hair. She has a pretty oval face, small and fine featured. Her skin is pale from the long hours she spent inside in the infirmary, and she often has a lost look in her eyes; suggesting that while her body is in attendance, her mind was not. Her eye colour tends to be dynamic; shifting through various colours, depending on her mood, the use of her powers and the level of activity “Pan” has within her mind. When he is dormant, her eyes return to blue.
She usually wears a short tunic and leggings, her hair tied with colourful ribbons in high pigtails either side of her head. She prefers to wear bright colours, and is therefore seldom seen in sombre colours such as brown or black. She is lithe and flexible, her lack of strenuous physical activity means that she is not muscular; neither does she possess an ounce of unnecessary fat. She always carriers a tattered leather rucksack, containing a few supplies, as well as her beloved stuffed panda, Panda.
Panda appears as a stuffed stylized panda, though at times he can shift to form to appear either cute and innocent, or grotesque and sinister. Phiari only ever sees him as the former. He appears to be made from dyed wool or cotton, with obsidian eyes that seem to glitter with life. His mouth and nose are formed from skilful stitches, though it may appear that the features change slightly on occasion.
Strengths: She is a talented magician, but rather than manipulating the elements, her source of power seems to come from within. She gets on well with anyone, and doesn’t hesitate to give someone the benefit of the doubt.
Weaknesses: At times, while she hears the words someone is speaking, she does not understand them. This is due to Panda’s interference, he acts as a censor, protecting her from information he feels she does not need- or indeed he does not want- her to know. Of course, she does not know that he does this. While her powers are strong, she has little control over them, and her trusting nature leads her to allow Panda to convince her to use them to create mischief. She does not deal well with large groups of people and no understanding of the subtleties of the world around her. In effect, her mind is that of a child.
Special Moves: [Update this later]
Likes: Phiari likes most things, but at the top of her list are sweet things, bright colours and being with her stuffed Panda.
Dislikes: She dislikes the dark, anyone being even vaguely unpleasant- to herself or to Pan, conflict and loud noises.
Personality:
Phiari’s personality may seem quite simple at first, she acts a tad air headed and at times foolhardy and reckless, but she tries new things because she genuinely enjoys life. She is sensitive, soft-spoken person and does not like conflict of any kind. She always tries to see the best in people even if it isn’t always there. She has got an impish side, and she likes to use her magic to pull pranks on her elders, just to see the result. The word “consequences” mean nothing to her, partly because she doesn’t fully understand that other people does not see things the same way she does, and partly because of her firm belief that Panda will always protect her. In turn, she fiercely protects her stuffed toy and best friend, believing him to be the only one she can turn to in times of need.
Deep down, Phiari may be aware of what Pan really is, but she doesn’t seem to display anything but love for him. Panda himself is a vindictive creature, at first seeking to use Phiari’s power for his own means; often convincing her to use her powers to bring others misfortune. Over time, his attitude towards the girl seemed to have softened, now he controls her not just to wreak havoc, but to avenge any slight against Phiari, even ones made in jest. Perhaps he has come to care for the girl, or his nature is both spiteful and petty.
Background:
Phiari does not remember where she came from, but Pan does.
Phiari once belonged to a tribe of nomads that made their home around the wastelands, they were not strangers to demon attacks or other creatures stealing up and attacking them during the night, they were a fierce, battle-hardened people. Each time the risk became too great, they would move on, taking the meagre animals and supplies they had with them. Their tribe kept to the old ways and to the old gods; caring little of the strife between Fable and Abyss, remaining separate in thinking from the two. Magic was their greatest resource, the priestess who cared for them, tending their wounds after battle by drawing magic from the world around her was revered, as well as any child that showed any sort of magical potential.
Phiari was born one uneventful evening, but even then, the magnitude of her abilities were evident to the priestess who chose her to be her future successor. Her parents were overjoyed at this honour, and a feast prepared to welcome the child. Many gifts were imparted to her, along with a small cloth panda, stuffed with wool. The infant loved the toy, and since then, has had great attachment to it.
Time passed, and the girl grew, her powers growing with her. She mastered certain spells before she could even speak, inciting jealousy among some of the older children the priestess tutored. They began to plot against her in secret, finally thinking up a way to outdo her in magic. They went to the chief with their plan. During Phiari’s fifth year, two girls, Ilo and Miri, that the priestess taught stood up, making a proclamation to all. They were both swiftly approaching their coming of age, but Phiari for outstripped them in magic. They claimed they had found a way to summon a guardian for the people, a sentinel that never needed food or water; that would protect them forever. Of course the people listened. They smiled indulgently at the people, plying them with sweet words, so much so that the tribe refused to listen to the priestess’ warning.
They began their chant, it lasted long into the night, and everyone could tell they were disturbing an ancient, slumbering force. Finally, the last words left their lips and they smiled, exhausted. For a long moment nothing happened, they the portal they had summoned erupted in flames. Their faces twisted in horror as they realised what they had done. They had not summoned a benevolent god, but a bloodthirsty demon. It eradicated everything within its path, but Phiari’s parents had hidden her, and the child witnessed the death howls of her kin well into the night.
The rest of that fateful night is a blur to both of them, but when morning broke, a band of travelling performers found a small child, alone in a decimated village, clutching a stuffed panda. For many years they raised her as her own, but even then they knew she was cursed. She began talking to stuffed animal, even it seems allowing it to think for her; rather than saying “I think”, she would say “Panda thinks”, or that it wants. Even worse, they would encounter near fatal accidents should they try to remove the toy, one of her adoptive family had even been crippled. Certainly the child was a delight, and she led a charmed existence, but she was dangerous, and clearly insane.
Finally, after many years of trying to cope, she was left at the infirmary in Fable, in the hopes that perhaps the priests could remedy her and perhaps rid her of the evil surrounding her. Once priest discovered the true horror; discovered what was lurking in her seemingly innocent stuffed toy, but tragically fell out of a window to his death before he could tell anyone.
She was later released from the infirmary, it was evident that they could do nothing more for her, Phiari still spoke to the toy as though it were living, and strange occurrences still seemed to happen around her. She then made her way to Taori in Abyss, seeming to drift aimlessly through life.
